Three days training for the Georgian laboratories to comply with the monitoring requirements of the WFD, 27-29 Nov.2018, Tbilisi, Georgia

The objective of the EUWI+ project is to support six Eastern Neighbourhood countries in the water sector reforms at different stages including the review and evaluation of monitoring in Georgia. To help establish the legal and institutional framework, the project supports the improvement of capacity of the main laboratories to comply with the monitoring requirements of the WFD and to obtain enhanced accreditation at national and international level. The EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the international standard for defining the requirements and criteria for testing laboratories showing their technical competence and it is basis for laboratory accreditation.

The laboratories of The National Environment Agency (NEA) in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi carry out hydro chemical and hydro biological testing. The central laboratory is already accredited, while the local laboratories are not yet accredited. A challenging task is the transposition of the existing quality management system to the new edition 2017 of the EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard, which needs to be accomplished latest by end of October 2020.

Therefore the one day Quality Management training conducted at the Laboratory of the National Environmental Agency of Georgia on 27th of November, 2018 focusing on the new 17025 standard edition and its changes and additional requirements was held right in time to allow the NEA labs a thorough and effective transposition and implementation in their laboratory.

In addition, a two day training on auditing was conducted at the Laboratory of the National Environmental Agency of Georgia on 29th and 30th of November, 2018.  Regular internal audits are essential and therefore shall be carried out in laboratories to identify any nonconforming work and to help improving the quality management system and laboratory activities.
