A Workshop on Delineation of Transitional and Coastal Water Bodies was held in Baku on 4-5 April, 2018.
The workshop aimed at harmonizing and improving knowledge of principles of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), as well as various Biological Quality Elements and other reference/technical requirements for delineation of transitional and coastal water bodies in relation to the delineation of surface water bodies. Presentations and discussions covered a wide range of issues, including a process of identification of all types of coastal and transitional waters appearing in Azerbaijan, determination of monitoring points for chemical and biological parameters in the EUWI+ Pilot area of the Kura river delta, and development of a monitoring system in accordance to the EU WFD. The workshop has gathered about 30 participants from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and other relevant water management sector institutions and organisations, the National Academy of Sciences, research centres and universities, as well as ongoing international projects.
