EU supports sessions for pupils and students to learn more about water quality
As part of the European Days celebrations in Azerbaijan on 21-22 May 2019, the European Union is supporting the organisation of practical sessions for schoolchildren and students to raise their awareness of pollution prevention, water quality and its importance for a healthy life. Participants will analyse samples of river water and wastewater using express water test kits, with the support of EUWI+ experts.
The European Union and Azerbaijan work in close cooperation to improve quality of life for Azerbaijani citizens. Over the last ten years, a series of EU-funded programmes have been jointly carried out to create more jobs, develop better conditions and foster new opportunities for Azerbaijani people. The European Union is a frontrunner in this area and provides financial and technical assistance to the Eastern Partnership countries, including Azerbaijan, to improve their national legislation and water quality management systems. As part of this approach, the EUWI+ project (running from 2016 to 2020) aims to support Azerbaijan to achieve concrete benefits for citizens in the water domain. Action includes developing river basin management plans, laboratories and monitoring systems and includes rehabilitation of laboratories and equipment. This new student-centred initiative aims to raise public awareness and improve understanding of the importance of having reliable information on water quality, through practical water analysis. Knowing more about water quality is essential to effectively manage water resources.
