Since 2004, every year, 19 countries from the Danube River Basin are celebrating the Danube Day on 29th of June.  The Danube Day is a symbol of unity for people who, although speak different languages, have different cultures and traditions, still admit and understand the value of this river and its tributaries for their communities.

The Danube flows towards south-east, passes a distance of approximately 2860 km and into the Black Sea, being the only European river that has its path from west to east.

This year also, alongside other countries, Republic of Moldova joins the celebration of Danube Day, the manifestation being organised by the Agency of the Regional Development South, the Mayoralty of the Giurgiulești village and the Danube Logistics company. Among the guests of the event there were the representatives of the Austrian, German and British embassies, the delegation of the European Union, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, the agency „Apele Moldovei” (Waters of Moldova),  the project EUWI+ East, and others. The guests of the event enjoyed the performances of the local folk groups, and attended a promenade on a ferryboat at the confluence of the rivers Prut and Danube.

Începând cu anul 2004, anual, pe data de 29 iunie, 19 țări din Bazinul Hidrografic al fluviului Dunării sărbătoresc Ziua Dunării. Ziua Dunării este un simbol al unirii oamenilor care, deși vorbesc limbi diferite, au culturi și tradiții diferite, totuși cu toții recunosc și înțeleg valoarea Dunării și afluenților săi pentru comunitățile lor.

Și în acest an, alături de alte țări, Republica Moldova s-a alăturat serbării Zilei Dunării, manifestația fiind organizată de Agenția de Dezvoltare Regională Sud, Primăria satului Giurigulești și compania Danube Logistics. Printre oaspeții evenimentului au fost reprezentanți ai Ambasadelor Austriei, Germaniei, Marii Britanii, Delegației Uniunii Europene, Băncii Europene pentru Reconstrucție și Dezvoltare, Ministerului Agriculturii, Dezvoltării Regionale și Mediului, Agenției ”Apele Moldovei”, proiectului EUWI+ East și alții. Oaspecții evenimentului s-au bucurat de evoluții ale ansamblurilor folclorice locale, precum și de o plimbare cu debarcaderul la confluența râului Prut cu fluviul Dunărea.
