22 December 2018 in frame of EU-funded project «EU Water Initiative+» (EUWI+) the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine and Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Service of State Service of Emergency Situations signed agreement with Environment Agency of Austria on purchase of equipment using EU funds to reinforce laboratory capacities and strengthen reforms in water sector. The total investments in laboratory infrastructure are about 500 000 Euro.
Future laboratory equipment allows define chemical status of surface waters and measure 33 parameters from the list of 45 EU priority hazardous substances (presenting a significant risk to or via the aquatic environment).
"Establishment of modern analytical laboratory will allow obtaining high confidence data about the state of waters and support practical implementation of the new Order of state water monitoring according the best world practices, namely EU Water Framework Directive” – mentioned Mr. Mykola Kuzyo, deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
The new equipment will support obtaining information needed for development of River Basin Management Plans.
It is expected that analytical equipment will be supplied to Ukraine and installed by the end of 2019.
