Organised through the EU funded EUWI+ project, participants took stock of progress in developing the water supply and sanitation strategy of Ukraine, and its harmonisation with the national water resources strategy, which are being developed by two different line ministries. It was a follow up to a workshop organised in July 2019 and the workshops were organised in Lviv to attract a wide range of stakeholders and participants to share views.
The EUWI+ workshop on 11 September was co-chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine and the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. Ensuring this co-ownership was a key objective of the workshop. Participants from national and regional authorities, water utilities associations, vodocanals and the NGO community joined experts from the EU and representatives from International Organisations to discuss recent progress in developing the strategic vision. Participants debated the status of current strategic documents, roles and responsibilities, the affordability and implementability of the current plans and proposed alternative pathways to engage political support and audiences outside of the water and environment communities.
