The General Survey Manual is considered as an assisting tool for the preparation and planning of sampling campaigns for the assessment of the ecological status of running waters, including sampling, analysis and documentation (reporting). The manual includes templates for field work, laboratory anal-ysis and the technical report, which cover the quality elements general physico-chemical conditions, hydro-morphology and biological quality components.

While the General Survey Manual describes HOW the survey shall be organised and carried out, a Specific Sampling Plan shall be created for a concrete sampling campaign. It is formed by filling the templates provided as Annexes of the General Survey Manual and includes the concrete data necessary in preparation of the campaign, such as sampling date, sampling sites and responsibilities.
