High level Meeting to discuss challenges on climate change in the Eastern Partnership region will be held in Vienna, 27 May 2019
2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership (EaP), celebrated with a number of events. These are the occasion to discuss the action of the partnership during its first decade and exchange on its future. The High level meeting will be an occasion to discuss the results of actions taken in the framework of the Eastern Partnership to mitigate climate change, and also to discuss further environmental challenges ahead.
This Meeting is a good opportunity to recall the importance of water issues in climate change, both being interrelated, as climate change affects the quantity and quality of freshwater and occurrence of extreme weather events such as floods or droughts.
The European Water Initiative EUWI+ project works together with the 6 EaP countries since 2016 to implement action programs on the quantitative water management issues in River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) and to harmonize them through transboundary cooperation.
As both water and climate change know no borders, it is undeniably at the level of rivers basins, including transboundary, that essential actions should be carried and reinforced. The seriousness of the situation requires the quick implementation of comprehensive, integrated and consistent water resources management.
