Communal wastewater-based epidemiology can provide valuable information on viruses by analysing their molecular epidemiology and the geographical distribution of cases. Recent scientific studies indicate that this approach can serve as a supporting tool for pandemic management in the COVID-19 crisis.

The aim of this webinar is to provide the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine) and relevant stakeholders from the region and beyond with information on the current developments of a sensitive and reliable method for the analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in urban wastewater monitoring. Experts of the Environment Agency Austria and the Technical University of Vienna will present the requirements for national monitoring programmes in terms of scientific expertise and technical resources, as well as sampling logistics and data evaluation, followed by a discussion with the audience.

This webinar is free and open to public health and water professionals, researchers as well as environmental and health authorities from the Eastern Partnership countries, and delegates of the European Union and international institutions dealing with wastewater monitoring issues.

The webinar is provided within the framework of the European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership Countries (EUWI+), funded by the European Union with co-funding by France and Austria.
