Workshop on water and health - synergies and joint implementation of the protocol on water and health, related EU directives and SDGS in the Eastern Partnership Countries. Geneva
On 2 April 2019 a subregional workshop on Synergies and Joint Implementation of the Protocol on Water and Health, related EU Directives and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Eastern Partnership Countries will be organized in Geneva within the framework of the EUWI+ programme and with financial support of the European Union.
The aim of the workshop is to assess recent progress on water, sanitation and health in the European Union Eastern Neighborhood region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) and to discuss the linkages and synergies between the UNECE/WHO Regional Office for Europe Protocol on Water and Health, related EU Directives in particular the Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste-water treatment (UWWT Directive) and the Council Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Drinking Water Directive and its recast) and related SDGs.
The event will bring together representatives from all 6 EUWI+ target countries from the Ministries of Environment and Health and other relevant agencies responsible for implementation and reporting under the different frameworks, including EUWI+ national focal points.
It will address synergies in implementation and reporting on water, sanitation and health under the abovementioned international and regional frameworks and will exchange experiences on good practices and challenges that are relevant for the Eastern Partnership countries. Moreover, the workshop will consider legal, institutional, financial and technical aspects of advancing the water, sanitation and health agenda, taking into account the approach promoted by the Protocol, EU Directives and the SDGs.
The workshop will be organized by the UNECE with support of the EUWI+ implementing partners OECD, and the EU Member States Consortium of the Environment Agency Austria and the International Office for Water.
